History

The Harkins family of companies traces it’s roots back to 1974 when founder C. William Harkins, a licensed Professional Civil Engineer, a Class A Licensed General Contractor, and a commercially focused licensed real estate broker founded a small residential building company.

Over the past thirty years, Harkins family of companies has branched off into two separate entities. The first of which was renamed to Harkins Development Corporation (Commercial Development Company). Over the past thirty years, Harkins Development Corporation has evolved from a premier custom home building operation into a highly regarded commercial general contracting firm whose specialty has become the design/ build delivery system. Harkins Development has earned a stellar reputation with both national and local clients among Orlando’s business professionals, having constructed numerous buildings for medical, surgical, dental, and veterinary specialties as well as for a host of various general businesses including retail centers.

With the explosion of the development company brought on a strong need to assist clients in their search for commercial land and structure acquisitions and dispositions. Harkins understood that the same clientele that needed professional commercial buildings had needs to acquire and dispose of properties. Therefore in 1984 Harkins added a separate company to handle those needs which is known today as Harkins Commercial, Inc.

Since it’s inception in 1984, Harkins Commercial, Inc. has become a well respected commercial brokerage firm not only serving the needs of the development company clientele but also serving the needs of the local community in which it resides. With its foundation rooted with 31 years of commercial property ownership, acquisition, disposition, and development experience the company has been able to branch into more services.

In January of 2006, Mark Harkins, son of Bill Harkins, joined the team becoming President of Harkins Commercial, Inc. Shortly, thereafter, Mark was able to grow the real estate division into a stand alone comprehensive commercial real estate firm. All throughout, Harkins Commercial, Inc. has remained strongly integrated with Harkins Development, while branching off beyond the walls of strictly the development clientele.

Harkins Commercial, Inc. provides not only expertise in these core areas but also expertise in commercial leasing, tenant representation, property management, and commercial investments forming a “one stop shop” for all owners and investors of real estate, management, and development needs.
